Georgia ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press preseason Top 25 college football poll released Monday.
Coach Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs received 46 of the 62 first-place votes, with 15 going to No. 2 Ohio State and one to No. 3 Oregon. Texas and Alabama round out the top five.
Due to realignment and the breakup of the Pac-12, the unprecedented preseason poll includes schools from only four conferences: SEC (nine teams), Big Ten (six), Big 12 (five) and ACC (four), plus independent Notre Dame at No. 7.
Defending national champion Michigan ranks No. 9, while 2023 runner-up Washington becomes the first team to reach the College Football Playoff and be unranked the following season.
Also in the top 10 are No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 8 Penn State and No. 10 Florida State.
Georgia, which is 42-2 over the last three seasons and returns star quarterback Carson Beck, will look to become the first preseason No. 1 to finish in the top spot since Alabama in 2017.
